Civil society extends knowledge of the EITI regionally

On May 12-14, study seminars for civil society organizations and leaders on the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) were held in Lviv and Donetsk.

Participants of the trainings – local NGOs, activists, journalists, representatives of self-government and communities – have had the opportunity to understand key requirements of the standard.

The seminars were conducted by the Eurasia Extractive Industries Knowledge Hub director Ingilab Akhmadov and the Revenue Watch Institute regional coordinator Galib Efendiev together with members of the “EnergyTransparency” Association.

Particular interest of the participants was caused by the issues of mandatory and recommended requirements, transparency of local payments and allocations on social and economic development of local communities, possibilities of effective control of the financial flows of local extracting companies, best practices of other countries (in particular, Azerbaijan, Norway, and Mongolia).

They also focused attention on organizing the reporting in the field of licensing, generated revenues, activity of the state-owned companies, subnational transfers and social influence.

Seminars were held in the framework of the “EnergyTransparency” Association project (coordinated by Dixi Group) on strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations in the EITI implementation in Ukraine. Workshop in Lviv was organized by the Analytical Center of Regional Cooperation, in Donetsk – by the NGO “People’s Control”.
