Civil society of the Donetsk region get successfully aware with the EITI principles

On May 14, in Donetsk, on the basis of the Donetsk Press Club, a seminar and a videoconference with the participation of civil society leaders, representatives of companies, government and media was held.

In the first part of the meeting, the video conference has been held with Kyiv and Kharkiv, whereas the participants have had an opportunity to get more knowledge on the principles of transparency in extractive industries. In the second part, the video conference has been held with Lviv, where the representatives of Donetsk community listened to the presentation of experts in the sector and had an opportunity to ask questions in order to receive answers.

Ukraine received the EITI Candidate status on October 17, 2013. EITI is an independent and voluntarily supported international standard of transparency, which is being implemented in 41 countries.

EITI requires carrying out audit of companies’ payments and government revenues related to the development of national resources.

The event in Donetsk was conducted in a structured and productive way. Participants agreed that in future they will cooperate on this subject.
